Omaha Glass Co FAQ

Have a glass-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • How long will it take to replace my windshield or glass?

It depends on the make and model of your vehicle. If time is a factor, one of our representatives can provide you with a general estimate when you call.

  • Can you do the work at my home or office?

We can complete auto glass services on a mobile basis for most vehicles! You can count on us for free mobile service, pickup, and delivery. Contact us to learn more.

  • How soon can I drive my car after you have installed the windshield?

We use state-of-the-art urethane adhesive, but we do recommend you let the vehicle sit and limit your driving for the first 12 hours.

  • What do you use to "glue" the windshield in my car? Is it safe?

We use a urethane sealant that meets all federal vehicle safety standards.

  • Can your installers come to my home or office on snowy days? Is weather a factor in my replacement?

Weather plays a part in windshield or glass replacement. The vehicle must be dry and preferably in a warm environment for the urethane to set and cure properly. If necessary, we can do the installation at our J Street location.

  • Does Omaha Glass Co work with my insurance company or agent?

Yes, we can directly bill your insurance and assist with all paperwork. All you need is your policy number and the date the damage occurred.

  • I am not exactly sure if my windshield can be repaired. Specifically, what am I looking for as a candidate for repair?

The most important factor is making sure the damaged area is no bigger than 1 1/4 inches or 3 cm. Damage larger than this can become unstable. Also, a large pit could spread during the repair process and grow worse under the high pressure used to inject the damaged area.

The best way to determine if your glass can be replaced is to stop by and let us examine the damage.

  • How clear will my chip or pit be after repair?

The damaged area will clear significantly after the repair is completed. When cured, the polymer that's injected into the pit will resemble the clarity of glass. Please note, the chip does not disappear, but it hides. You'll see something like a shadow where the pit was.

The approximate expected clarity from the original damage is 75-95%. Our main objective is to stop the chip from further spreading and cracking the glass.

  • I have taken a rock chip just above my steering wheel, in my line of vision. Can this area still be repaired?

Most likely, no. A rock chip in your line of vision even after repairs can take your concentration away from the road and bring your focal point to the pit. If you're unsure if your damaged glass qualifies as a line of vision break, visit us to let us examine the damage.

  • I have heard that cracks can be repaired. I have a 4 inch crack in the lower passenger corner, and my windshield was just replaced six weeks ago! Can you fix it for me?

Yes and no. We cannot repair the crack, but we can try to stop it from spreading further. We will drill the laminate slightly in front of the crack to ensure that pressure in the shifting crack can be relieved as it travels to the drill point. Injecting the crack with polymer will not strengthen the crack much. Cracks do not hide as well as pit or chip breaks, so you will still see the crack after drilling.

It is risky to drill out a crack and we cannot guarantee this type of repair. It is kind of a last-ditch effort to extend the life of your windshield. The success ratio is 60/40 in your favor. We can nearly guarantee that a windshield crack will continue to grow until it reaches the outside edge unless the crack is relieved using the drill method.

  • Can you do the work at my home or office?

We can complete most glass repairs on a mobile basis. Contact us to learn more about our free mobile service, pickup, and delivery.

  • Can your technician come to my home or office on snowy days? Is weather a factor in my repair?

Weather is an important factor in windshield repair. The best environment for repairs is dry and warm, as cracks can spread when temperatures shift from cold to warm during the repairs. If there is inclement weather, we can meet you at our J Street location for repairs.

  • Do you waive my insurance deductible?

Many insurance companies waive the deductable for windshield repairs. We'll let you know if you have this coverage.

  • If my repair spread or windshield becomes cracked after having it repaired, will you replace my windshield at no charge?

We will credit the cost of the repair toward the purchase of a new windshield.

  • Will Omaha Glass Co guarantee a repair?

Our work is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you're unsatisfied with our repair work, bring your vehicle back to the shop and we'll take a look.

Keep in mind, we cannot guarantee a repair that is larger than 1 1/4 inches or 3 cm.
